Geography is defined on Google as "the study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and of human activity as it affects and is affected by these, including the distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries." PHEW! This is a long definition, but we can break it down into simple common sense:
The study of the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere: In Geography, we describe the land formations and water distribution in the Earth.
Human activity as it affects and is affected by these: How humans shape the environment and how the environment shapes humans.
Distribution of populations and resources, land use, and industries: Where humans live and what resources they use at to create their societies and cultures.
Geography ultimately talks about how humans organize and use plant Earth. For most of you, Geography might mean simply looking at maps and trying to memorize countries and mountain ranges, but this is not all what it is TRULY about.
In our Geography class, we will be studying both different regions of the world and how humans have influenced and ARE influenced by those places. In the next two quarters, we will be studying a region of the world at a time alongside certain every important themes/concept for geographers.
After the second week of class, you all will be leading half of the class discussion. Half of the time will be a mini lecture/activity on a certain geography concept, while the second half will be a presentation in groups of three on a certain region of the world. Students can choose the presentation groups that they will be in and present three times over the next 10 weeks. Below is a schedule of the topics with all the resources and presentation links.
